Sue Genest graduated from The University of Calgary with 1st class Honors BA and a MSc in Counselling Psychology. She is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and has been practicing as a Provisional psychologist in Alberta since 2006 and as a  counsellor in varying capacities since 1993.
She has over 20 years working in health care such as: crisis counsellor, health educator, career counselling, children/adolescent programs at the Children's hospital, research in mental health, disability care provider, and Instructor.

She works with individuals and groups in the areas of trauma (e.g. childhood trauma, car accidents, abuse,...), PTSD, grief, anxiety, anger, stress, depression, personal growth, self esteem and addictions.


She has worked with Provincial and Federal Corrections with male inmates for four years.


She works in full time private practice with women and men, adults, adolescents, children, and couples.


Her work is founded on the principles of non violence, mindfulness, organicity, wholeness, and unity. She incorporates Hakomi, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Imagery, Aboriginal teachings, Narrative, and many other influences into her work.


She is a certified EMDR therapist, EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and facilitates & teaches EMDR trainings. She also teaches EMDR Advanced trainings that allow therapists to advance their skills; enhance their own development; and to understand more about working with complex trauma.

She has won numerous awards for her academic work and taught several classes at the University including counselling skills, lifespan development; mind/body/spirit medicine; qualitative research; and sexuality. She has publications and presentations in the area of wholistic healing, pediatrics, qualitative research, sexuality, and career counselling.
